The winners of the 2011 Timber Design Awards were announced at a ceremony at Chapter House in Melbourne on 18 October.
Circa Morris-Nunn Walker took out the Australian Timber Design Award for Saffire Freycinet resort – a lavish twenty-suite resort overlooking Great Oyster Bay in Tasmania. Saffire’s response to its bushland surrounds impressed the judges. The resort roofs rise gradually above the bush in organic curves mimicking the gentle peaks of the nearby Hazard Ranges. These complex curves are created with prefabricated structural timber. Saffire also recieved the Best Southern Region (Tas and Vic) award and the Public or Commercial Buildings award, and Peter Walker of Circa Morris-Nunn Walker received the Rising Star award for the same project.
