2014 Australian Interior Design Awards: Emerging Interior Design Practice

Emerging Interior Design Practice Acme & Co 2014 Australian Interior Design Awards

Jury comment

Acme & Co shows a strong and consistent approach to design in the projects it has completed to date. The jury applauded the integrity and transparency of design thought found in the studio’s built work, and also praised Acme & Co’s careful and crafted design process when creating new work. Through a solution-focused attitude, the studio now has a portfolio of projects that exhibit innovation, consistency and attention to detail. From the work presented to the jury, Acme & Co displays an acute ability to respectfully combine new work with heritage structures, as seen in The Incinerator project. The jury looks forward to seeing more work from this thoughtful and dynamic design studio.

Design statement

Acme & Co is a multidisciplinary design firm that delivers a broad range of creative projects. The boutique practice was established in January 2013 and has extensive professional experience in both small- and large-scale projects. Completed works include projects in the hospitality, residential, commercial, industrial, public and adaptive re-use sectors. The studio philosophy is that of a holistic approach, creating seamless architecture and interior design solutions. Acme & Co is constantly seeking new ways to solve problems through experimentation of ideas, materials and technology. While each project is individual, the studio adopts consistent principles across all its projects, exploring the fundamentals of environment, sustainability, space, proportion, light and materials. Attention to detail and process is a response to detailed analysis rather than a stylized overlay. Acme & Co works closely with its clients, educating them from the project concept through to its execution. The design firm’s relationships with its clients reflect its design values, integrity and transparency.

The Emerging Interior Design Practice award is supported by Space. The Australian Interior Design Awards are presented by the Design Institute of Australia, DesignEX and Artichoke magazine. For more images of this project, see the Australian Interior Design Awards gallery.
