2014 Eat Drink Design Awards shortlist

The annual Eat Drink Design Awards celebrates excellence and innovation in the design of hospitality venues of all scales and types, retail environments for the sale of food and beverages and visual identities for both. The awards recognize design achievement through six categories: Best Bar Design, Best Restaurant Design, Best Cafe Design, Best Temporary Design, Best Retail Design and Best Identity Design.

In 2014 the jury has shortlisted sixty-eight projects from across Australia and New Zealand. Bringing together the expertise and experience of the design and hospitality communities, the judging panel for 2014 comprised food writer and critic Michael Harden, restaurateur Simon Denton, designers Tina Engelen and Kirsti Simpson, and Cameron Bruhn, editorial director of Architecture Media.

Eat Drink Design Awards ambassador Jill Dupleix said, “The Eat Drink Design Awards are a crucial piece of the scaffolding that supports our great Australian hospitality industry. Great design helps frame and define Australian dining and drinking experiences, and it is as creative and fresh as the food we eat.”

“The awards are particularly important now that the world is looking closely at our region and at Australia in particular, and now that we are trying to define who we are by where we are. It’s super-important to package what we do and how we eat and drink in a uniquely Australian way, to link good design with good eating, and to build a strong design culture for the future. There’s a new excitement in the air about the Australian hospitality scene, and one of the roles of these awards is to seek out and celebrate new benchmarks that push us forward.”
