Jury comment
The Get Sunflowered project transforms redundant spaces in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley through a series of community events that include cleaning, planting, weeding, watering and eventually a harvesting party with local live music, food and entertainment. This project activates underused spaces while cultivating community conviviality. It is commended by the jury for taking such a novel approach in a regional centre where population and economic shifts have resulted in an abundance of disused spaces. The activation of these spaces brought about by the spectacular blanket of sunflowers assists in providing positive visions of the future.
