2016 Victorian State Planning Conference

The Planning Institute of Australia’s 2016 Victorian State Planning Conference will take place at Silverwater Resort in San Remo from 1–2 September. The theme for this year’s conference will be Hard Decisions, Strong Leadership.

Topics to be covered at the conference include: civic technology and planning, regional development, adaptive housing and innovation, planning for tourism, smart planning and the cost of disruptive transport technologies.

Speakers include Victorian minister for planning Richard Wynne, federal minister for the environment Greg Hunt, human rights lawyer Julian Burnside, and CEO of Sydney Community Foundation and author Jane Jose. Jose’s book Places Women Make received a Bates Smart Award for Architecture in the Media: National Award at the 2016 Victorian Architecture Awards.

Also in attendance will be Tamara Prezzi who will be MC on day one of the conference, and urban futurist Stephen Yarwood who explores preferred futures for communities and corporations by consulting on governance, leadership, strategic planning and urban develpment.

The PIA’s WA 2016 Conference will also take place on 2 September. Titled Urban Innovations: Disrupting Suburbia - Shifting Suburban Culture, the conference will focus on creating efficient, technology-driven future cities that are also liveable, human-centres and design-driven. Speakers include critic and Sydney Morning Herald columnist Elizabeth Farrelly, Studio Huss co-founder and director Jonathan Daly and Chief Innovation Officer and Director of the Office of Innovation at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Timothy Papandreou.
