CTBUH International Conference comes to Sydney in 2017

The 2017 Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) International Conference will be held in Sydney from 30 October to 3 November 2017.

The five-day conference will bring together speaking and pecha kucha-style presentations, exhibitions and panel discussions that address the 2017 theme of “Connecting the City, People, Density and Infrastructure.”

Applications for CTBUH members who world like to present at the conference are currently open and will close on 17 March 2017.

The conference aims to inquire beyond the tall building as an icon to debate a new set of guidelines and responsibilities towards skyscrapers becoming “connectors” in the city.

The discussion will include a broad range of topics, including urban planning, architectural design, vertical transportation, cost consulting, real estate development and curtain wall design.

The first two days will be the core conference. The third day of the conference will be dedicated to off-site programs, which will take place across buildings, urban spaces, infrastructure hubs and key developments throughout Sydney.

In the off-site programs delegates will hear from colleagues on a specific theme related to the location through presentations followed by tours of the sites led by professionals involved with the projects.

Days four and five will allow attendees to experience other key cities in Australia.

The conference will incorporate three half-day segments that focus on unique themes and will include presentations, site visits and technical demonstrations. Locations are still being determined but are likely to include Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The conference co-chairs include three Australian architects, Ken McBryde (principal, Hassell), Jeff Morgan (associate principal, Grimshaw Architects) and Philip Vivian (director, Bates Smart), as well as Antony Wood, executive director of CTBUH.

The steering committee for the conference includes Marc Colella (Aecom), John Flynn (Conrad Gargett), Stephen Giblett (Mott MacDonald Group), Helen Lochhead (University of New South Wales), Cameron McLean (McLean Consult), Philip Oldfield (University of New South Wales) and Shaun Schroter (Architectus).

A networking reception will be held on 30 October from 6pm–8pm and a VIP networking reception will be held on 29 October from 6pm–8pm.

Attendees can choose to attend the conference for two, three or five days.

Registration will take place on 29 October 2017.
