AAMI Park wins at World Stadium Awards

Melbourne’s AAMI Park has won The World’s Most Iconic and Culturally Significant Stadium award at the 2012 World Stadium Awards held in Doha, Qatar.

Designed by Cox Architecture, the stadium was one of eleven projects that were shortlisted in the category, along with other finalists from Russia, South Africa, the US, China, Qatar and New Zealand.

Victoria’s minister for major projects Denis Napthine commented, “AAMI Park’s innovative bioframe roof and unparalleled spectator experience represents the next generation of stadium design around the world.”

The World Stadium Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of leaders in the international stadium design and development industry who have contributed to the latest innovations in design, venue functionality and technical ability.

AAMI Park has received twenty-two awards since opening in 2010, including major awards from the Master Builders Association, the Victorian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects and the Australian Institute of Project Management.
