AAMI Park stadium claims its twenty-second award

AAMI Park stadium, designed by Cox Architecture, has received its twenty-second award, this time at the Lightweight Structure Association of Australasia (LSAA) awards on 13 October.

The stadium received the 2011 Design and Collaboration award for its project team’s collaborative approach to the design and construction of the building. The project team, led by Major Projects Victoria, included Cox Architecture, Grocon, Arup and Norman Disney & Young. The judges applauded the stadium’s lightweight bio-frame roof, which was based on the structural efficiencies of the Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome. The dome uses fifty percent less steel than an equivalent traditional cantilever design.

The LSAA awards recognize excellence in design, innovation, construction and application of lightweight structures.
