EOI open for Venice Biennale Australian pavilion
The Australia Council for the Arts has published an invitation for expressions of interest from Australian-registered architects and architectural practices for the redevelopment of the Australian Pavilion in Venice, Italy.
This EOI stage is an opportunity for architects to provide the selection panel with a clear, concise and considered demonstration of their credentials for a project of this nature. Following the EOI, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to submit a comprehensive tender proposal, based on a detailed design brief, to demonstrate how the project requirements will be successfully implemented.
The selection panel will include Luca Belgiorno-Nettis (chair, Biennale of Sydney); Doug Hall (Australian commissioner, Venice Biennale 2011); Kathy Keele (CEO, Australia Council of the Arts); Simon Mordant (Australian commissioner, Venice Biennale 2013); and Brian Zulaikha (president, Australian Institute of Architects).
The context and limited size of the project makes it challenging and the selection panel will be looking carefully at how proposals address these issues.
The new pavilion is due to be completed for the opening of the 56th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, June 2015.
EOI submissions are due Tuesday 7 October 2011. The appointment date for the architect is yet to be announced.
