Open House Adelaide

Open House Adelaide invites the public into more than 50 of the city’s old and new buildings and design studios, over the weekend of 4–5 May.

Adelaide architecture lovers will get to find out what lies behind the city’s normally closed doors at Open House Adelaide, over the weekend of 4-5 May. Fifty-five buildings great and small, old and new wil be open, offering a great cross-section of Adelaide’s past and present, from its churches and warehouses to commercial buildings, galleries, studios and private houses.

Visitors will also have the chance to view the studios where these buildings are designed, as architecture practices including JPE Design Studio and Tridente Architects are opening their doors to the public. Other buildings on the program include Robin Boyd’s Walkley House, Walter Burley Griffin’s Thebarton Incinerator, which is now used as artists’ studios, and the heritage-listed Freemasons Grand Lodge, SA and NT, which was completed in 1927.

Open House Adelaide is held in conjunction with About Time – South Australia’s History Festival. The program is free, though you’ll need to book in advance for certain properties – see the website for details. Bookings close 3 May.
