Time is running out to enter the Craft and Object Design category of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards, which closes on 6 July 2012.

Portfolio entries are open to Australians aged thirty and under. The judges are looking for original works that demonstrate your own point of view, and information on your experience or experiments in your chosen field. The winner will receive $5000 in cash, a twelve-month mentorship with Marc Newson and a trip to the London Design Festival.

Sydney-born Newson is one of the world’s foremost designers. He has created a wide range of designs including watches, furniture and restaurants. He is known for using “biomorphism” – a design style that uses smooth flowing lines, translucency, transparency and an absence of sharp edges.

His work is on show in permanent exhibitions at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, London’s Design Museum and Germany’s Vitra Design Museum.

The Architecture and Interior Design category of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards closes 7 September 2012. The winner of this category will receive $5000 in cash, a trip to the World Architecture Festival and a twelve-month mentorship with architect Brian Zulaikha.
