Shortlist revealed: 2016 Australian Interior Design Awards

This year, 487 entries were received by the Australian Interior Design Awards, with record-breaking entry numbers in the Hospitality Design, Residential Design and Emerging Interior Design Practice categories. From these entries, 158 have been shortlisted among the seven primary categories (Stream A).

The leading awards program recognizing and celebrating interior design excellence in Australia, the Australian Interior Design Awards announced its 2016 shortlist on 24 March.

A partnership event of the Design Institute of Australia and Artichoke magazine, the awards will be presented during a gala dinner on Friday 10 June 2016 at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney. The awards program recognizes and celebrates interior design excellence in the Stream A categories of Retail Design, Hospitality Design, Workplace Design, Public Design, Installation Design, Residential Design and Residential Decoration. Other awards are bestowed for the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design, Sustainability Advancement Award, Best of State Awards for Commercial Design and Residential Design, the Emerging Interior Design Practice Award and Best International Design Award.

The Stream B Interior Design Impact category recognizes significant influence of interior design on business, social, human resource, environment and/or cultural outcomes of a project. The winner of this category will be announced along with winners of other categories on 10 June 2016.

On the 2016 jury were:

Stream A: Sonda Banney (Architectus), Mardi Doherty (Doherty Design Studio), Matt Gibson (Matt Gibson Architecture + Design), Robyn Lindsey (Geyer), Alison Page (Alison Page Design), Phillip Rossington (BVN), Nick Travers (Technè Architecture + Interior Design) and Dimmity Walker (Space Agency)

Stream B: Geraldine Maher (jury chair, Jackson Interiors), Richard Johnson (Johnson Pilton Walker) and Rosemary Kirkby (Rosemary Kirkby Associates)

Joanne Cys (LFDIA, University of South Australia) acted as jury convenor, and John Gertsakis (Infoactiv Group) acted as sustainability advisor.
