Terroir shortlisted in Danish Hospital competition

Australian practice Terroir in collaboration with Danish architecture and landscape practice CF Møller, and engineering practices Alectia and Søren Jensen are among three teams shortlisted in the stage one of a three-stage competition for the design of the Acute Ward at New Hospital Bispebjerg in Denmark.

The $1.6 billion DKK (AUD$400 million) project for the Acute Ward will be largest part of the new hospital and will accommodate state-of-the-art facilities including emergency rooms, operating rooms and wards. It is set to be a catalyst project for the renewal of the Bispebjerg Hospital district and the wider urban context of north-west Copenhagen.

Terroir and CF Møller’s design draws reference from the hospital’s existing heritage-listed pavilion structures and landscaping built in 1913. As well, the design expresses the prevailing ideas of healing architecture including an emphasis on light, air, closeness to nature with integrated green landscaping and easy way finding.

The other two teams shortlisted were COWI, Nordic Office of Architecture, Christensen & Co Arkitekter, Aart Architects and Marianne Levinsen Landskab; and the consortium of KHR Architects, WHR Architects, Arup and Schønherr.

The winner of final stage will be announced in mid 2015.
