Architectural firm Beraldo has created an environmentally responsible building with the Tempo in Mascot, Sydney. Acoustics and thermal efficiency were key elements of the project.
By using CSR Hebel products, Beraldo was able to create the thermal and acoustic efficiency required for the development, and achieve the project aim of offering “whisper quiet” apartment living.
The Hebel PowerPanel system consists of high performance autoclaved aerated concrete panels that provide solid feeling and secure steel-reinforced walls that boast strong acoustic values for added privacy and sound insulation.
Hebel was specified as the building material of choice based on its products and systems being awarded the Good Environmental Choice Australia Label (GECA). The GECA assessment found Hebel products and systems have significantly reduced environmental loads of at least 30 percent over their lifecycle. In addition to its high levels of sustainability and green credentials, Hebel PowerPanel was also specified for its high fire-resistant properties, fast construction time, flexibility and lightweight attributes.
A total 11,000 square metres of Hebel PowerPanel was used for the internal party walls, and 10,000 square metres for the external facade walls.
In using Hebel PowerPanel, a design was achieved that wouldn’t have been possible using other building materials while attaining both thermal and acoustic efficiency. Along with the design and sustainability elements, there were considerable other benefits in using Hebel including cost savings due to the speed of the build, less crane time and low wastage.
