Two Corian project winners revealed

The 2015 Corian Design Awards have recognized two projects that have taken advantage of the unique properties of the composite surface material.

Two projects received the design awards, including the Wynnstay House project by Rob McBride and Debbie Ryan of McBride Charles Ryan and mPOD by Melanie Shiue of mPort.

The Wynnstay House island bench made of Corian is designed to look like an iceberg, and fits in with the water theme in the building’s interiors. The house is owned by the architects Rob McBride and Debbie Ryan.

The 3D scanning pod created by mPort – mPod – is made of Corian, and is designed to take body measurements and then map them in 3D for mobile fashion and health applications. The pods are located within major shopping centres across Australia.

Corian is a solid surface material that was first created in 1967. The composite material is made using acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, and it is best known for its use as a surface on benches and counters.
