The Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) is offering delegates of the National Architecture Conference and Landscape Australia Conference an exclusive viewing of The Inventive Work of Shigeru Ban exhibition on Sunday 7 May in Sydney.
Ban, who was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2014, is known for his pioneering work in the field of temporary, humanitarian housing and the use of paper tube structures.
The exhibition presents two of his’s paper tube disaster relief shelters in full scale. On display in SCAF’s courtyards are Ban’s Paper Log House from Kobe (1995), built in the aftermath of the Great Hanshin Earthquake, and a shelter designed for the relief effort in Ecuador (2016).
Inside the gallery, a scale model of the Christchurch Cardboard Cathedral will take centre stage, accompanied by a scale model of Ban’s design for the Japanese pavilion at the Hannover Expo in 2000.
The exhibition, Ban’s first in Australia, will be on show until 1 July.
