Iconic Australian Houses

Sydney Living Museums present an exhibition of iconic Australian houses at Museum of Sydney 12 April – 17 August. Curated by Karen McCartney, the exhibition brings to life projects from her publications 50/60/70 Iconic Australian Houses and 70/80/90 Iconic Australian Houses, with photography, illustrations, 3-D models and filmed interviews with architects and clients of these unique houses.

This behind-the-scenes exploration of twenty-nine of the most important Australian homes of the past sixty years looks beyond the physical structures to shine a light on the stories of the architects and clients. Supporting the exhibition is a series of talks by Karen McCartney, architect Peter Maddison, ABC presenter Fenella Kernebone, architect Peter Stutchbury and historian Professor Philip Goad, who explore themes ranging from making and living in iconic houses, to protecting them.

A self-guided open house tour of iconic Sydney houses supports the exhibition; its program will be announced in late February 2014,
