The Competition

The Competition, a fascinating documentary about high-profile architects, makes its Australian Premiere at ACMI Cinemas in Federation Square on 26 and 27 July.

Directed by Spanish architect, Angel Borrego Cubero of Office for Strategic Spaces (OSS), the film presents a raw account of leading architects – Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry and Dominique Perrault, all involved in an international design competition for the National Museum of Andorra.

This is the debut event organized by the new Melbourne-based group, DIS-cour.se, that dedicates itself to the exchange of architectural ideas. They have brought both the film and its Spanish director, Angel Borrego Cubero, together for this Australian premier as part of the Open House Melbourne program.

The Saturday night screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with Angel Borrego Cubero along with Andrew MacKenzie of City Lab and Uro Media, architects Gina Levenspiel and Kerstin Thompson, and Annette Pitman from Major Projects Victoria.

The screening is presented by DIS-cour.se in partnership with Melbourne School of Design, Open House Melbourne and ACMI Cinemas.
