Mallatt will be supported by studio leader Robert Deutscher.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Every year the Robin Boyd Foundation and Melbourne School of  Design   (University of Melbourne) hosts summer and winter design studios with   a master architect and a practising architect as  studio leader. Open for graduates of professional architectural degrees within their first ten years, the annual competition supports emerging leaders in architecture, offering winners a platform to develop their own speculative research. Previous winners have been graduates of Sydney University, RMIT, Canberra University, UTS and Victoria University in Wellington.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For the 2013 competition, three winning proposals will be awarded seed funding of $2,000 each to be spent on the development of their research proposal towards a publication and a public exhibition. The three teams or individuals will also have the chance to present their work at an event at the Sydney Opera House fortieth anniversary celebrations.&lt;/p&gt;

Students were asked to collaboratively envision Cremorne in 2025 as a new, lively, mixed-use, dense and sustainable inner suburb of Melbourne. Architecture did not feature in this equation until 1972 when architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown published &lt;em&gt;Learning from Las Vegas&lt;/em&gt;, based a research trip they undertook in 1968. Their study of the strip city became one of the most influential and controversial books on twentieth-century architecture.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;img alt="Learning from Surfers Paradise: A Rephotography Project 1973–2013" src="http://media3.architecturemedia.net/site_media/media/cache/56/6e/566ea2517329fb7d7f138783b6b4cd1e.jpg" width="640" height="427" /&gt;&lt;p&gt;An exhibition by renowned Australian architectural photographer John Gollings, &lt;em&gt;Learning from Surfers Paradise: A Rephotography Project 1973-2013&lt;/em&gt;, is on display at the Gold Coast Arts Centre 22 June – 4 August.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Inspired by Venturi and Scott Brown’s text &lt;em&gt;Learning from Las Vegas&lt;/em&gt;, Gollings came to Surfers Paradise in 1973 with the intention to extensively photograph the architecture, signs and symbols of leisure of this holiday town. Recently he returned to the exact sites to rephotograph what he documented forty years ago. The contrasts between then and now are startling, revealing the extraordinary rate of change on the Gold Coast.&lt;/p&gt;

Gehl formed his ideas about urban space by  recording how people use city streets and squares. His methods inspired a  re-imagining of New York&amp;#8217;s Times Square, Melbourne&amp;#8217;s laneways and a  game-changing report for the City of Sydney.&lt;/p&gt;

Against this breathtaking background, filmmaker Michal Angus captures Fredericks&amp;#8217; determined endeavours to capture time and  space in an image.&lt;/p&gt;
