Presented by Houses magazine, Our Houses public talks go behind the scenes to explore the making of unique private homes. In Brisbane on 23 March 2014, two local architects – James Russell and Paul Hotston – will discuss with their clients how they negotiated issues of site, climate, sustainability, history and context to create homes that perfectly reflect the way we live today.
Christian House by James Russell Architect
James Russell, the architect behind the 2013 Australian House of the Year, created this new residence in Brisbane’s north for clients David and Kate Evans. James, together with the clients and the builder Geordie Dickson, will take us through the design and construction process behind this home, which like James’s other work, engages with nature and embraces and celebrates Queensland’s subtropical conditions.
In-Between Room by Phorm Architecture and Design
At the home where singer/songwriter Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens once lived, Paul Hotston of Phorm Architecture and Design has created an “in-between” room connected to an existing Queenslander. Paul and his clients Biba and Fletcher Wythes will discuss the creation of this new space in relation to the cultural significance of this site.
