Reece Bathroom Innovation Award entries open

Entries are now open for the Reece Bathroom Innovation Award 2013. Design professionals and design students are now able to submit their product designs online and by post.

Designs must be for one of the three bathroom space categories – Destination Space, Sustainable Space and Independent Space and submissions must be for a design that incorporates innovative technology in one or a range of the following products:

The black tie event will be held on Friday 21 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

2013 Victorian Architecture Awards shortlist

The shortlist for the 2013 Victorian Architecture Awards has been released by the Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Chapter. Thirteen juries selected 112 projects (from a record 240 entries) to progress to the state awards, which will be presented on Friday 21 June at Central Pier, Docklands. Also to be awarded on the night is the prestigious Victorian Architecture Medal which is selected as the best project of the year from the field of awarded projects and the ColorBond Award for Steel Architecture.

2013 NSW Heritage Awards

At a harbourside lunch on 8 May, at Sydney’s Doltone House, the NSW National Trust announced its 2013 Heritage Awards. Phillip Adams AO as MC, special guest was Robyn Parker MP, Minister for the Environment and Minister for Heritage, along with National Trust representatives and other leaders in the heritage movement, including Heritage Officer at the NSW Chapter office of the Australian Institute of Architects, Dr Noni Boyd.

The awards that recognize both the reclamation of degraded natural environments and the restoration of unique pieces of the built environment, and National Trust NSW CEO, Brian Scarsbrick thanked this year’s entrants for the “wonderful gifts” they have given the state. Winners include the restoration of a now-vibrant wetlands in the Hunter Valley, a once-crumbling, now rebuilt church (resting place to forty First-Fleeters), the revival of Wollongong’s North Beach Bathers Pavilion (pictured top), a sand library to assist with vital mortar restoration projects, and a reshaping of the Darling Harbour Chinese Gardens.

The Australian Institute of Architects today released its shortlist for the 2013 NSW Architecture Awards. Seventy-two projects have been named finalists by five juries who will announce their winners on 27 June at Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney.

Additional awards will also be made (from the entire field of entries) for Sustainable Architecture, the Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture, the Blacket Prize for regional architecture, the President’s Prize, the Premier’s Prize and the City of Sydney Lord Mayor’s Prize.

Think Brick Awards open

Think Brick Awards are now open for entries. The annual program invites entries showcasing the best use of clay and concrete masonry from architects and students through a number of award categories and three design competitions.

On the 2013 jury are: Elizabeth McIntyre (Think Brick); Neil Durbach (Durbach Block Jaggers); Cameron Bruhn (Architecture Media); Emma Williamson, (CODA Sudio); Debbie Ryan (McBride Charles Ryan); and Ingrid Richards (Richards & Spence).

2013 Houses Awards shortlist

A record number of entries was received for the 2013 Houses Awards. Now in its third year, the Houses Awards is a survey of the best residential work by Australian architects, and these peer-judged awards have become among Australia’s most sought-after accolades for residential architecture.

In the 2013 Houses Awards, there are 125 shortlisted projects across the eight categories. This selection of projects demonstrates the way architects are responding to site, climate, sustainability, lifestyle, history and context. From inner-city terraces and warehouse conversions to buildings that respond to the diversity of the Australian landscape, the projects in this shortlist illustrate accomplished design for the way we live today.
