The 2014 National Landscape Architecture Awards were announced by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA) on Friday 17 October in Brisbane. The ceremony was a centrepiece of AILA’s Forecast Festival of Landscape Architecture. Nineteen projects were recognised in eight categories, with the top honour of the Australian Medal for Landscape Architecture going to Taylor Cullity Lethlean with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer for the National Arboretum Canberra Masterplan. In fact, 2014 was the year of Taylor Cullity Lethlean, the practice picked up no less than six accolades at the awards.
The jurors for the 2014 Awards were Adrian Pilton (chair), Catherine Keirnan, Shane Thompson and Lorrae Wild. “The standard of entries submitted was generally very high,” said Pilton, “and with such a diverse range of built and unbuilt projects, studies and reports, and project scales from the micro urban to the macro rural, it was truly a daunting task for the jury.”
Previously a biennial event, the awards will now be presented annually to coincide with AILA’s festival program.
