A new public space for Lane Cove

Lane Cove Council in Sydney’s North Shore has invited four leading Sydney landscape architecture studios to submit innovative design concepts for a new public space at the Rosenthal Avenue Car Park. The council is planning for the redevelopment of the site, seeking to open up its surface level to the public as an open space, while below the surface one level of retail and three levels of parking should provide approximately 500 public car spaces. The current car park provides 176 spaces.

Arcadia Landscape Architecture, Arterra Landscape Architects, Corkery Consulting and Oculus have each put forward concepts, which range from an urban forest and a sculpture garden, to a bushland playspace and vine-laden pergola structure. The designs are now on display for public viewing and comment. Interestingly, it’s not intended that any one design concept will be selected as a preferred or winning scheme, rather the Design Ideas Exhibition is intended to stimulate debate and imagination in the community about what could be possible on the site.

Feedback will be used to develop a final brief for the design of this key new public domain.
