Alexander House, the home of architecture and design practice Alexander and Co squeezes a workplace for 24 staff and an “architectural residential showcase” into the footprint of a terrace house.
The space has been conceived with the aesthetic vision of a “found feeling,” and uses materials and finishes that are “inherently imperfect, deeply expressive and selected to show their age.”
Alexander House accommodates workstations and a materials library within a large basement area. An open plan kitchen and living area with banquette seating leads out onto an internal courtyard. It also has breakout spaces in a loft area as well as a steam room, outdoor shower, ice bath and a pool.
“Each space allows us to provide both a true residential showcase experience for our clients and a flexible working environment for our team,” the practice said in a statement.
The practice has also worked with a range of craftspeople to create custom pieces for the project, as well as utilize a number of sustainability initiatives.
The practice hopes the space will also be used in the future to host events such as creative conversations as well as an artist in residence.
