Architectus to design research building for South Australian university

Architectus has been appointed design a new $180 million medical research building for Flinders University in Adelaide.

The building will be part of the university’s broader $1.5 billion plans for the redevelopment of its Bedford Park campus dubbed “Flinders Village,” which accompany the extension of Adelaide’s rail network to the campus.

The facility will include both teaching and research spaces, withteaching simulation and clinical research spaces for the community.”

The health and research building will be among the earliest parts of the redeveloppment. Other projects include student accommodation, transitional health accommodation, a hotel and and retail facilities.

In a statement, Architectus principal and Adelaide studio leader Andrew Schunke said, “Our national team of experts look forward to collaborating with the University to deliver an exceptional solution that will not only provide modern, collaborative, and innovative research and workspace facilities, but will strengthen South Australia’s offering of best practice health care for local, regional and rural communities.”

The facility will focus on mental health, infectious disease and personal health delivery. The project will be “shovel ready” in late 2020 and will be built during 2021-22.
