Austech’s Foamular extruded polystyrene insulation used in new UTS building

The new business school at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), designed by architect Frank Gehry, had its official opening in February 2015. Foamular extruded polystyrene insulation, supplied by Austech, was specified for the building’s plaza decks.

Foamular has high compressive strength, and can therefore support high loads. Given its high R-value, it provides outstanding energy efficiency. Foamular is lightweight, tough, and has excellent water resistance. It is produced in accordance with UN protocols for CFCs. Its physical and thermal properties are warranted by the manufacturer for 20 years, with a 50+ year life cycle.

Dubbed by the press as the “paper bag building,” the building is named the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building for the Australian-Chinese philanthropist businessman who donated $20 million towards the cost of the project.
