Australian Institute of Architects appoints new interim CEO

The Australian Institute of Architects has appointed Judith Slocombe AM as its new interim CEO, following Jennifer Cunich’s departure from the role in August.

The Institute advised its members in August that Cunich, who was appointed to the role in May 2016, had left the organization. Slocombe will hold the role of interim CEO while the Board of Directors seeks to appoint someone to the position permanently.

Slocombe, who will be based at the Institute’s Melbourne headquarters, is a professional board director and business consultant. A former veterinarian, she was previously the interim CEO of Early Childhood Management Services, a kindergarten and early leaving and care service provider, and has held a variety of other executive roles. She was named the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year in 2001 and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in January 2018 for her work in veterinary science and with organizations dealing with vulnerable children and domestic violence. Slocombe was CEO of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation for 10 years between 2005 and 2016

The Institute’s national president Clare Cousins will resume her role after as acting CEO for the past couple of months.

An executive recruitment agency will soon be appointed to find a permanent CEO.
