A number of Australian practices are in the running for the studio categories of the 2018 Dezeen Awards.

Among them is Austin Maynard Architects, which is up for Architect of the Year against practices including Mad Architects from China and de Rijke Marsh Morgan Architects (dRMM) from the United Kingdom.

The Melbourne-based practice is known for its body of predominately residential work, including the Brickface and King Bill houses, and an upcoming apartment building in Melbourne’s Brunswick that is being financed and constructed under the Nightingale model.

Studio Plus Three and Raffaello Rosselli were both longlisted in the emerging architect category, while Biasol and Studio Esteta both appear in the emerging interior designer category.

The practices join a number of Australian projects longlisted for the architecture and interiors categories.

The awards program, which is a new initiative for the international design blog, attracted more than 3,500 submissions from 91 different countries. The program is divided into three main category groups: interiors, design and architecture. Special awards for Interior Designer of the Year and Emerging Interior Designer of the Year will recognize all-round design excellence for a body of work.
