Brisbane Open House: green is good

Many of the city’s key environmentally engineered buildings open their doors for 2012 Brisbane Open House, which also launches its new speaker series.

Many of Brisbane’s green buildings will share their secrets when they open their doors for Brisbane Open House on Saturday 6 October. Visitors will learn how Hassell reused or recycled 88 percent of building waste (by weight) during the construction phase of its studio, or how Aecom’s green office approach includes hosting worm farms in each of the building’s staff kitchens.

The green buildings open on the day are:

One One One Eagle Street
One of Brisbane’s latest green additions – pre-booked tours of One One One Eagle Street will feature the tri-generation system, public areas and building and tenant floor design.

Wintergarden
Having targeted 4 Star Green Star v1 Retail Centre Design rating, Wintergarden has recently achieved a 5 Star Green Star rating. Wintergarden features a major art facade to all frontages in stainless steel and aluminium incorporating interactive LEDs.

Brisbane Supreme and District Court

Santos Place
This 6 Star Green Star building has secured a double thread in environmental sustainability. Certified under the Green Star Office Design and As Built rating tools, Santos Place puts sustainability into action. Entering through the cave-like arcade and foyer, visitors will be transported to the Top Floor to experience unparalleled views over Brisbane and beyond.

Wesley House IV
Visitors will enjoy a guided tour of Tract Consultants and Low Carbon Australia’s offices as well as the building’s spacious roof garden.

Aecom – North Tower HQ
Enjoy a tour of Aecom’s highly sustainable, flexible and inspirational workplace including the Level 8 reception and Level 10, which is home to building engineering, planning, design and development and water infrastructure services.

Cardno – Green Square (North Tower)

Visit Cardno’s highly sustainable workplace and enjoy views over the neighbouring RNA Regeneration Project.
