The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects has experienced a year of rapid growth since the appointment of its new national council and CEO in February 2014.
The peak body charged itself with the task of increasing membership involvement as well as advocating for better built environments in Australia.
One year on, AILA reports its membership numbers have increased by a staggering 68% since this change in governance. This is largely due to the establishment of twelve national committees to drive membership. As well, it has made eleven submissions to governments to advocate for the improvement of design in the public realm. AILA has also amped up efforts to engage with the public by instigating a program of activities including competitions, exhibitions, awards and the first annual Festival of Landscape Architecture – Forecast, held in Brisbane in October 2014.
As AILA heads towards its 50th anniversary in 2016, it has launched a new membership drive campaign titled Are You Ready. AILA is encouraging current members to recruit their colleagues and is offering a “Green Ticket” to the member with the most recruits. The ticket is an all-access pass to every AILA event in 2015.
AILA is also seeking a Celebration Creative for its 50th anniversary.
The 2015 Festival of Landscape Architecture – This Public Life will be held in Melbourne 15–17 October. For more information, click here.
