Call for entries: Queensland Deputy Premier’s Award for Urban Design

The Queensland government is calling for designers of contemporary urban design projects to enter the inaugural Deputy Premier’s Award for Urban Design.

The award will recognize landmark projects across Queensland. “The Queensland Government is encouraging both the public and private sector to make high-quality, thoughtfully designed places a priority,” said Queensland Government Architect, Malcolm Middleton, who will chair the award’s jury. Other jury members will be from the members of the Queensland Urban Design and Places Panel.

“This award highlights the critical role of good urban design in shaping Queensland and making it a great place to live, work and visit.”

The award is conducted in partnership with the Australian Urban Design Awards. All Queensland-based entries in the Australian Urban Design Awards will go in the running for the Deputy Premier’s Award for Urban Design.

Project will be assessed on functionality, aesthetics and viability, as well as sustainability and future adaptability. In addition, entrants should demonstrate how their projects have addressed contemporary cultural and social issues and the historical context.

Entries close on 9 September 2016. Winners of the Australian Urban Design Awards will be announced in a presentation in Melbourne on 13 October. The winner of the Deputy Premier’s Award for Urban Design will be announced early next year.
