An apartment tower designed by Durbach Block Jaggers in Potts Point, Sydney, has been launched by developer Greenland.
The proposed building, dubbed “Omnia,” is characterized by its elegant hourglass form. Due to the shape of its site, an urban peninsula where Victoria Street meets Darlinghurst Road currently occupied by the 15-storey Mercure Hotel, the proposed building has been compared with New York’s iconic Flatiron building designed by Daniel Burnham, 1902.
The 19-storey tower will comprise of 135 apartments, some of which are inspired by Le Corbusier’s influential Unite d’Habitation residential building in Marseille France, completed in 1952.
A portion of the apartments in Omnia tower borrow from the housing typology pioneered by Le Corbusier in Unite d’Habitation, where the apartments are dual level and L-shaped in section, allowing one level to have access to natural light and ventilation at both ends.
Durbach Block Jaggers’ tower will feature a mix of these, which have both east and west aspects, as well as single-aspect apartments, retail spaces, a communal garden and landscaped barbecue area.
SJB Interiors have been appointed for the interior design of the apartments.
