EOIs close for Venice pavilion

The expressions of interest stage of the process of creating a new Australian pavilion in Venice is now closed.

The selection panel recieved sixty-seven submissions in the EOI stage of the design process. Luca Belgiorno-Nettis AM (Transfield Holdings, Biennale of Sydney), Doug Hall AM (Australian commissioner, Venice Biennale 2011), Kathy Keele (Australia Council for the Arts), Simon Mordant (Australian commissioner, Venice Biennale 2013; chair, Museum of Contemporary Art) and Brian Zulaikha (Australian Institute of Architects, Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects) make up the selection panel.

Following evaluation of the EOI, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to submit a comprehensive tender proposal, based on a detailed design brief, to demonstrate how the project requirements will be successfully implemented. It is expected that EOI submissions will be shortlisted by mid November 2011.

The new pavilion is due to be completed for the opening of the 56th International Art Exhibition in June 2015. The project is managed by the Australia Council, with capital costs raised by the private sector.
