Residential projects by three practices on the 2013 Houses Awards shortlist were featured on current affairs program Today Tonight on Monday, 20 May 2013. Brisbane’s Shaun Lockyer Architects, Sydney’s Carterwilliamson Architects and Melbourne’s Rob Kennon Architects were featured in a segment about Australia’s best home renovations.
Cameron Bruhn, editorial director at Architecture Media (publisher of Houses magazine), who was interviewed for the segment, spoke about Australia’s love affair with renovating as demonstrated by the popularity of reality television programs. Houses magazine, the publication behind the Houses Awards, presents a range of new builds, along with renovations of all types of homes – from timber pavilions in Brisbane, to terrace houses in Sydney, to bungalows in Melbourne.
The annual Houses Awards celebrates Australia’s best residential architecture. Excellence is rewarded in eight categories – two of which are dedicated to recognizing the best alterations and additions projects by Australian architects – with the best house receiving the premier award of Australian House of the Year. A Houses Award is one of Australia’s most sought-after accolades for residential work.
The Houses Awards will be announced in Melbourne on 25 July 2013 at Melbourne’s Australian Centre for the Moving Image. Look out for issue 93 of Houses magazine, which will include full coverage of the Houses Awards results.
