Hunt on for next NSW Government Architect

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment is seeking applicants for the newly vacant position of NSW Government Architect.

Based in Sydney, the government architect and the office of the Government Architect NSW (GANSW) provide strategic advice to the NSW government on the built environment. The role attracts a salary of between $268,001 and $337,100.

The position calls for a registered NSW architect with “significant experience in architecture and design complemented with in-depth knowledge of contemporary trends in the built environment and related social and construction issues.”

The role description notes that the government architect “operates with a high level of autonomy,” and “makes decisions in relation to priority activities with recommendations and advice considered to be of critical importance.”

Former government architect Peter Poulet left role after being appointed as the new Central City District Commissioner for the Greater Sydney Commission in September.

His interim replacement, Olivia Hyde, has been with the NSW Government Architect’s Office since 2015, and is currently GANSW’s director of Design Excellence. Before this, she was a senior practice director at BVN Donovan Hill and worked at Foster and Partners offices in Hong Kong and London.

Applications for the role close 28 October.
