Institute’s 2016–2017 National Committee for Gender Equity revealed

The Australian Institute of Architects has revealed its 2016–2017 National Committee for Gender Equity (NCGE).

The NCGE was established by the National Council to implement the Institute’s Gender Equity Policy and recommend actions, initiatives and programs needed to realize the policy.

To celebrate the committee being active for more than two years, the NCGE has recruited some new members to continue the push for a more equitable architectural profession.

Lee Hillam will take over from Emma Williamson as chairperson. Hillam is a director of Dunn and Hillam Architects in Sydney and an advocate for architecture’s role in designing better places for all people.

The other committee members are: Michael Smith (deputy chair of the NCGE and director of Atelier Red and Black), Emma Williamson (founding chair of NCGE and director of CODA), Gill Matthewson (currently based at Monash University), Jessica Hardwick (lead architect for Happy Haus), Catherine Startari (project architect at GHD Woodhead), Leone Lorrimer (CEO of DWP | Suters), Sam McQueeney (graduate architect at Circa Morris-Nunn Architects), Madeline Sewall (project leader at Breathe Architecture), and Sander de Vries (project architect at a medium-sized firm in Hawker, ACT).
