Invited design competition for Perth’s Cottesloe Beach pavilion

A developer is seeking ideas from the public to inform an invited architectural design competition for the redevelopment of the Indiana Tea House on Perth’s Cottesloe Beach.

Developer Minderoo will collate submissions from the community regarding their thoughts on what could be done to improve the area. These will be given to 12 practices who have been invited to produce design concepts for the building.

Three design concepts chosen as finalists will be published online and returned to the community for further discussion.

The architectural proposals will be judged by a panel led by former WA and Victorian government architect Geoffrey London.

The Indiana Tea House site has been reconfigured a number of times since the first building was completed in 1910. It was demolished in 1929, and the Centenary Pavilion which replaced it was similarly removed in 1982.

The Indiana Beach Pavilion built in 1982 was designed by architect Laurie Scanlon and is “reminiscent of the early British colonial architectural style,” inspired by the Centenary Pavilion.

Submissions can be made here.
