Cross-laminated timber by Le Messurier

The Le Messurier Optim building system is a low-carbon, high-performance alternative to concrete, steel and aluminium.

Optim cross-laminated timber panels are made from large-format, solid boards of timber using a patented manufacturing process. The panels consist of a minimum of three layers of dried spruce timber glued to one another at right angles. Optim panels can be produced in very large sheets – up to 4.8 metres by 20 metres and 50 to 300 milimetres thick – and are glued with a durable adhesive bond ensuring that building components are resistant to warping, pests and fungus.

All the elements are individually designed and manufactured in an environmentally friendly vacuum process.

Due to good thermal insulation even with thin walls, with Optim it is possible to gain up to 15 percent additional living space compared to conventional solid constructions with an identical building area.

Optim cross-laminated timber reduces construction time, and is safer, requires fewer skilled workers and creates less waste than many other construction products. It also provides excellent sound insulation, thermal insulation and storage.

The cross-laminated timber system is suitable for medium- to high-density constructions. Cross-laminated timber can be used for load-bearing walls, ceilings and roof constructions.

Established in 1859, Le Messurier is an Australian, family-owned, national wholesaler and importer of timber and related building products.

The Le Messurier Optim display home will be on display at Designex 2012, 14–16 May.
