Marrickville Medal for Conservation

Entries are now open for the 2014 Marrickville Medal for Conservation in Sydney’s Inner West. Now in its 20th year, the Marrickville Medal for Conservation recognizes local built works that contribute to the area’s cultural and architectural heritage. This year’s theme is Journeys. “From grand Victorian villas, to small, semi-detached dwellings, Marrickville’s streets and lanes tell a million stories. That’s why the Medal is important – it’s about encouraging the conservation, preservation and restoration of local buildings that mean something to Marrickville,” says Mayor Jo Haylen.

In tandem with the Medal, Council is running an Urban Photography Competition where photographers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged submit their modern take on the local pre-1960 built environment.

The 2013 Marrickville Medal was awarded to architect Eoghan Lewis for alterations and additions to a heritage-listed sandstone bungalow in Collins Street, Tempe. The former Majestic Theatre in Petersham and the former Enmore Public School were also Highly Commended.

Entries for the Marrickville Medal and photography competition close on Friday 14 March 2014. Winners will be announced at Marrickville Town Hall on Wednesday 14 May.
