The Australian Institute of Architects has revealed its shortlist for the prestigious 2022 National Architecture Awards. This year, 85 entries have been shortlisted across residential homes, public architecture, and contemporary infrastructure, celebrating the “diversity and quality” of Australia’s built environment professionals.
The National Awards jury chair Tony Giannone said these projects demonstrated the high calibre of Australia’s architects and displayed the unique connection of the built environment to its landscape.
“In the public domain, it was pleasing to observe the increasing significance of buildings with a public ethos,” said Giannone. “Many presentations highlighted the relationship of the building to its community rather than the architecture. The jury was heartened by this return to social values and the importance of the architect in society.”
The National Architecture Awards jury comprised immediate past president Tony Giannone, Caroline Pidcock of Pidcock Architecture and Sustainability, Adrian Iredale of Iredale Pederson Hook, Poppy Taylor of Taylor and Hinds Architects, and Tim Ross of Modernister Films. Winners will be announced in Sydney on 3 November.
