The Nishi Building designed by Fender Katsalidis and Suppose Design Office in collaboration with Arup has won International Project of the Year in the 2015 Building Awards in London.
The Canberra building emerged victorious from a shortlist that included a project by UK’s Make Architects to claim the title.
The Nishi building is a mixed use development in Canberra’s New Acton precinct by developer Molongo Group, who led the small army of creative consultants that contributed to the project. The building is home to a boutique hotel by March Studio, a cinema by DesignOffice, a legal workplace by Bates Smart, a government office by Woodhead as well as 220 apartments.
The judges commented that the building is “a stunning project – colourful, exciting and with interiors that cleverly mirror the exterior.”
