NSW Architects Registration Board seeks new registrar

The New South Wales Architects Registration Board (NSWARB) is seeking a new registrar, after incumbent Timothy Horton was appointed a commissioner of the Land and Environment Court.

The board registers architects and has a statutory obligation to protect customers and inform the public about architecture. The organization is the presenting partner for the Sydney Architecture Festival, which it said experienced a 300 percent increase in social media activity in 2018 from the previous year.

“The figures show that planning, design and architecture remain a top priority for Sydneysiders,” said Deborah Dearing, NSWARB president. “They also show how much heavy lifting the Festival does when it comes to promoting a better understanding of architecture in the community.”

“We see the next few years accelerating an already dynamic agenda. We want to find a registrar who is looking to lead a dynamic organization and we expect to announce a new appointment next month.”

An advertisement for the position says that the registrar is responsible for “promoting a better understanding of architecture in the community,” “overseeing a range of pathways to registration and tertiary course accreditation processes” and “managing the Board’s interface with the public, architects, and stakeholders through effective media, website and social media management.”

Dearing added, “Promoting a better understanding of architecture in the community is a core function of the Board – it is there in the objects of the Architects Act, and informs our strategic plan.”
