One Central Park wins top honours in international award

Sydney’s One Central Park by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and PTW Architects is the Overall Winner at 2014 LEAF Awards, announced by the Leading European Architects Forum at a presentation in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The winning projects in 2014 are located across the globe from Johannesburg to Jordan. With thirteen categories spanning single occupancy residential to urban design, the annual awards program recognises “buildings that are setting the benchmark for the international architecture and design community.”

One Central Park also took out the title of Best Sustainable Development of the year. “The incorporation of [a Central Thermal Plant and Water Recycling Plant] alone sets the development apart,” said the judges, “but it’s the astonishing cantilevered Heliostat with its array of adjustable mirrors forming a shimmering canopy, and the vertical gardens and green terraces providing a curtain of foliage turning the pristine floor to ceiling glazing into a high tech ‘tree house’ that delight in equal measure.”

On the judging panel were: Carlo Castelli (AECOM), Alan Crawford (Crawford Partnership), Firas Hnoosh (BDP), Božana Komljenovic (Zaha Hadid), Rysia Suchecka (NBBJ) and Lev Libeskind (Daniel Liebeskind).
