Johnson Pilton Walker (JPW) has won Stages 5 and 6 of the Parramatta Square Design Competition with a twin towers scheme featuring a ‘public terrace in the sky’. In announcing the win, Parramatta Lord Mayor John Chedid said the scheme was unanimously selected by the competition jury. “Council is delighted with the Johnson Pilton Walker design, and we’re confident their proposal for two beautifully linked buildings will complement all aspects of Parramatta Square, and be of premier appeal to national and international tenants.”
Stages 5 and 6 of the design competition opened in September 2013, with four designs shortlisted in November from a field of seventy-three worldwide submissions. The JPW towers are key to redeveloping the three-hectare Parramatta Square site in the heart of the CBD. When completed, they will add 140,000 square metres of office space to the city. JPW joins other high-profile architects already appointed to design landmark buildings for the Parramatta redevelopment program, including:
- Stage 1 — a commercial building at 169 Macquarie Street by Architectus
- Stage 2 — the Aspire residential tower at 160 Church Street by Grimshaw Architects
- Stage 3 — Community/council facilities and commercial space by FJMT.
