Parramatta Square design competition

Submissions are now open for a new international design competition launched on 27 September 2013 by Parramatta City Council in Sydney’s west. The Parramatta Square Stages 5 and 6 Design Competition add to the three-hectare Parramatta Square project with two towers on Darcy Street of 200 metres and 220 metres high and a total floor area of 120,000 square metres.

Winners will join other high-profile architects already appointed to design buildings as part of the Parramatta redevelopment program, including: Architectus / Stage 1 commercial building on Macquarie Street; Grimshaw Architects / Stage 2 Aspire residential tower on Church Street; fjmt (Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp) Stage 3 combined community / commercial space and Council facilities.

The competition will be run in two stages. Stage One, the open architectural concept competition, opened on 30 September. An independent jury panel will assess submissions and invite four architecture practices or teams to participate in Stage 2, the Design Excellence Competition. After submitting a complying entry, each of the invited teams will receive $30,000 to develop their submissions. Parramatta City Council will announce the winning design in December 2013.
