Three projects feature innovative use of Corian

The 2015 Corian Design Awards have recognized three projects that have taken advantage of the unique properties of the composite surface material.

Two architectural projects received the design awards, including the One Property project by Lachlan Cooper of Architects EAT and St Vincent’s Private Hospital by Greg Angel of Angel Mahchut Architects.

Architects EAT created a marbled white cantilevered, sculptural reception counter for One Property.

Angel Mahchut Architects lined the walls of the operating theatres at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, with the material creating a sterile environment resistant to chemicals, bacteria, stains and impact.

One product-based design was recognized too, which involved a project by Alexander Meeks of Adherettes at Medibank’s Melbourne headquarters that used Corian to create signs. The signs were designed to complement other aspects of the building design and integrate well using organic, curved forms.

Corian is a solid surface material that was first created in 1967. The composite material is made using acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, and it is best known for its use as a surface on benches and counters.
