The 19th annual Australian Interior Design Awards have been announced, with the winner of the premier award demonstrating how masterful design can unlock the “immense potential and possibility” of a building.
The jury unanimously agreed that Stable and Cart House by Clare Cousins Architects was the standout project across the categories, capturing the fundamentals of what makes good interior design tick.
“What resonates most is the authenticity of the design and the way it has been conceived to be lived in, not just looked at,” the jury said.
“The material palette not only reflects a sustainable approach to how people live, but also displays a responsive understanding of an Australian design language that supports the opportunity for the house to age gracefully.”
The jury stated that across the categories, this year’s entries demonstrated a “renewed emphasis on personal connection, craftsmanship and comfort.” It said that designers’ “intelligence, generosity and prowess” speaks of the high standard that is Australian interior design.
The 2022 jury comprises: Madeleine Blanchfield (Madeleine Blanchfield Architects, NSW); Eid Goh (Architects EAT); Stuart Krelle (Luchetti Krelle, NSW); Rosie Morley (Fender Katsalidis, Vic), Jade Nottage (Tom Mark Henry, NSW); Beatrix Rowe (Beatrix Rowe Interior Design, Vic); and Peter Walker (Cumulus Studio, Tas); and Scott Walker (Hassell).
The jury was convened by Geraldine Maher, principal of Geraldine Maher Design, with John Gertsakis, director of Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence, as sustainability advisor.
