A “genuinely clever” design for a Sydney hair salon has won the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design at the 2019 Australian Interior Design Awards, announced on Friday 31 May in Melbourne.
The jury said that the standard of the winners this year were high, “marked by an intellectual rigour and stylistic confidence.”
“The very best interiors exhibit a fearless design approach that pushes boundaries to reinvent typologies, experiment with spatial planning ad innovate the use experience.”
The jury said that the winner of the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design – George Livissianis for the hair salon Usfin – is a “fine example of where the Australian design industry is today.”
“This hair salon combines a genuinely clever concept with a daring aesthetic that’s memorable, to say the least.”
The 2019 jury for the Awards for Australian Interior Design comprised Angela Biddle (Scott Carver, New South Wales); Caroline Choker (ACME, New South Wales); Anthony Dickens (Hassell, Victoria); Peta Heffernan (Liminal Studio, Tasmania); Ingrid Richards (Richards and Spence Architects, Queensland); Sonia Simpfendorfer (Nexus Designs, Victoria); Koichi Takada (Koichi Takada Architects, New South Wales); and Kieran Wong (The Fulcrum Agency, Western Australia).
