Prospective entrants have until 16 March to make a submission to the 2018 Houses Awards, an annual program celebrating Australia’s best residential projects presented by Houses magazine.
The Houses Awards are among Australia’s most sought-after accolades for residential work. Each year, the Houses Awards entries provide a unique insight into contemporary residential design and the contribution Australia’s architects and designers make to enhancing the way we live today.
Excellence is rewarded in nine project categories, with the best house receiving the premier award of Australian House of the Year. The winner of this premier award stands to take home a $5,000 cash prize.
The 2017 edition of the awards saw Vokes and Peters take home Australian House of the Year for Auchenflower House, a memorably adapted traditional Queenslander.
The prizes are otherwise sorted into nine categories: New House under 200 m2, New House over 200 m2, House Alteration and Addition under 200 m2, House Alteration and Addition over 200 m2, Apartment or Unit, House in a Heritage Context, Garden or Landscape, Sustainability and Emerging Architecture Practice.
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges comprising Kerry Clare (director, Clare Design), Albert Mo (director, Architects EAT), Jenny Officer (director, Officer Woods Architects), Stuart Vokes (director, Vokes and Peters) and Katelin Butler (editor, Houses). Peter Williams (founding director, Williams Boag Architects), will provide advice to the jury in the Heritage category.
The awards will be presented in Sydney at a yet-to-be-announced venue on Friday 27 July 2018.
