Call for submissions: Australian Furniture Design Award 2020

Submissions are now open for all Australian designers and makers to enter new and original furniture designs in next year’s Australian Furniture Design Award 2020.

The 2020 theme is ‘How can design shape life?’ and entrants must consider the broader implications and opportunities of furniture design in their entries. The judges will be looking for submissions that demonstrate critical and creative thinking and explore new design and production processes.

Submissions of a design concept and information about entrants’ professional practice are required by 15 November. A more detailed brief will be provided upon registration, but designers must have a current ABN to enter.

A shortlist of five entrants will then be invited to present their realised designs for exhibition during Melbourne Design Week, set for 2–22 March 2020. Designers will be given an honorarium of $1,000 to turn their design into a reality especially for the show.

The winning designer will receive a $20,000 cash prize, an invitation from Stylecraft to develop a design through to commercial production for distribution and a two-week residency program at JamFactory in Adelaide to experiment with new ideas and materials, prototype new work or explore new making processes.
